Gino Pozzo

Gino Pozzo is an Italian businessman, managing director, and legal owner of Watford Football Club, who purchased the club from Laurence Bassini in late 2010. Pozzo, who has a degree in law from the University of Milan, is also the owner and president of Udinese Calcio and Granada CF.

An Italian-American, Pozzo is considered by many to be one of the most successful businessmen in the world. Gino was born and raised in Florence, Italy, on July 5th, 1942. His father owned a grocery store, and Gino began working there when he was six.

Pozzo eventually traveled to the United States and married in New York City in 1975. The couple finally had three children, including two sons: Giampaolo (who is also involved with his family’s businesses) and Luigi (CEO of Watford FC).

  1. Early Career

Gino Pozzo first job was as a lawyer for the Italian company Palladio before working for the Olivetti Corporation for over ten years. In 1982, he founded his own company named ‘Gino Pozzo Production’, a sub-contractor for Olivetti, with which they built several Olivetti Italian factories. In 1994, Pozzo founded ‘Giovanissimi Pozzo,’ a sports & leisure club to reflect his son Giampaolo’s involvement in the club.

  1. Debut

Watford FC officially joined the Premier League in June 2011 after becoming the first team from the lower divisions to achieve promotion within two seasons of its formation. Gino is primarily credited for Watford’s impressive rise from League One to the highest level of English football (in under five years).
