Repton School Tennis Players Shine at Spanish Training Camp

Repton School, a prestigious institution recognized for its excellence in sports, recently sent its promising tennis players to an intensive training camp in Spain. Held at the esteemed Ferrer Tennis Academy, the camp aimed to refine the skills of these young athletes and provide them with world-class training opportunities.

The group of 20 students from Repton School embarked on this journey in early April 2024. The Ferrer Tennis Academy, known for its exceptional facilities, offers a range of courts including three hard courts and six clay courts. This variety enabled the students to experience the nuances of different playing surfaces, an essential aspect of professional tennis training.

Over the course of the week, the Repton School players engaged in rigorous training sessions that encompassed both technical and physical aspects of the sport. The academy’s head coach, Andrew Richardson, who famously coached Emma Raducanu to her U.S. Open victory, played a pivotal role in guiding these young talents. The students also had the unique opportunity to practice Padel tennis, broadening their athletic experience.

A standout feature of the camp was the matchplay afternoon, which fostered a spirit of competition and teamwork among the students. The Repton School players competed in singles and doubles matches, allowing them to apply their newly acquired skills in real-time scenarios.

James Rushby, Repton School’s director of tennis, emphasized the benefits of such international exposure. According to Rushby, the camp not only enhanced individual skills but also strengthened the team’s overall dynamics, a crucial element for their upcoming competitions.

Repton School’s commitment to nurturing athletic talent is evident in its robust tennis program, which has consistently produced players of high calibre. The participation in this Spanish training camp is yet another step in Repton School’s ongoing pursuit of sporting excellence.
