A Commitment to Philanthropy Has Been a Major Focus for Ben Roethlisberger Throughout His Career
Though Ben Roethlisberger is an iconic sports figure who enjoyed an amazing career as the quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers of the NFL, he has also built a reputation for charitable work. During a run of 18 years, he was twice crowned as a Super Bowl winner. Beyond his impressive accomplishments on the field, he has dedicated much of his time to philanthropic causes.
The early years of life for Ben Roethlisberger were spent growing up outside of his hometown of Findlay, Ohio. From an early age, he had a great interest in playing sports and focused his efforts on both football and basketball. He would play both of these sports in high school, but it was his skills in football that would earn him a spot on the team at Miami University in Ohio.
Roethlisberger would claim the starting quarterback job at Miami University in 2001. During his time as the school’s quarterback, he would set many passing records. His college career would gain him a great deal of attention from talent scouts in the NFL. He would go on to get taken by the Steelers in 2004’s draft as the 11th overall pick. From there, he would quickly become the team’s starter in his first season after veteran Tommy Maddox sustained an injury. This season would see him lead the team to the AFC championship game and he would garner “Offensive Rookie of the Year” honors for his efforts. It was the start of a legendary career that would see him twice lead his team to victory in the Super Bowl.
As noted previously, Ben Roethlisberger is known for more than his accomplishments in the world of sports. He is also renowned as a generous philanthropist who is involved with many charitable organizations including his own Roethlisberger Family Foundation.
