If there was anyone who could turn a basement-dwelling football team into a champion, it would be Gino Pozzo. The owner and CEO of England’s Watford Football Club is one of the most popular personalities in the game.

Gino Pozzo is very passionate about football. In fact, his family purchased the Udinese club in the 1980s. His family have a few successful businesses that afforded them the opportunity to buy their own club. It was during this time when Pozzo watched and learned all he need to know about managing the club. Under his father’s leadership, the club became very successful.

At the age of 18, he left home for college in the states. After receiving a bachelors and master’s degree from Harvard, he relocated to Spain then moved his family to London. By this time, he had acquired the Vicarage Road football club. He used his family’s successful model to help the club gain status.

When he purchased the Watford Football Club, it was in serious debt and disarray. Despite this, Pozzo was confident that he could turn the club around. Not only would it be successful, but it would also make a profit. So while in London, Pozzo threw himself into managing the club head first. He told reporters that he was sure that he could do well because the team had a lot of potential.

After purchasing Watford, his family became the only ones that owned 3 different football clubs. All three have had a phenomenal amount of success with Gino Pozzo at the helm.

“It was a long term approach that help us become what we are today,” says Pozzo.

Pozzo says you have to have passion, but you also need to have a vision. There’s no doubt that Gino Pozzo’s hands-on approach has changed the game. He has the support of the fans and team members.
