Eamon O’Rourke
Eamon O’Rourke is a rising filmmaker and activist best known for his first feature film, Asking for It. O’Rourke, who is based in Brooklyn, New York, has previously worked as a ghostwriter, screenwriter, actor, and production assistant for some of Hollywood’s greatest films, including The Wolf of Wall Street.
Asking For It
Eamon O’Rourke’s feature film debut, Asking for It, was released by Paramount Movies in March 2022. Asking for It, starring Vanessa Hudgens and Luke Hemsworth, flips the script on the dominating male storyline that is so prevalent in action films. Joey (Kiersey Clemons) joins a group of female vigilantes in their quest for retribution against rapist frat guys and crooked cops.
In order to combat Hollywood’s lack of diversity, Eamon O’Rourke took considerable measures to include female, Native American, and LGBTQ+ characters in his film. O’Rourke relied on his varied cast for guidance, ensuring that the tale he conveyed on film was a true reflection of the community’s lived realities. “I tried my hardest to find out how to film this movie properly so that I’m not telling them this is what the experience is,” he adds.
Before directing Asking for It, O’Rourke worked as a ghostwriter and doctored screenplays for a number of successful films and television series. He also contributed to the shows The West Wing and The Wolf of Wall Street. O’Rourke formerly operated a music video studio and created videos for Schoolboy Q and Tommy Hilfiger.
Eamon’s Philanthropy Work
Aside from his artistic endeavors, Eamon is an active activist. He formerly worked with Legal Hand, which provides immigrants, persons with disabilities, and individuals with mental health difficulties with housing, employment, health care, and legal services. O’Rourke has also used his acting skills to teach improv to individuals in halfway homes.
After losing numerous close friends to drug overdoses using fentanyl, O’Rourke got active in New York City’s anti-opioid overdose activities. Volunteering with EMTs, social workers, and venue owners, he supplied venues with Narcan kits and fentanyl testing strips. Additionally, he has supported Occupy Wall Street, abortion rights, Black Lives Matter, and NoDAPL.
