For that purpose, Colcom Foundation was created. Colcom Foundation supports the preservation of resources and the natural environment. Its focus is the Pennsylvania area.

Founded by Cordelia S. May in 1996, Colcom Foundation was created to help with environmental problems such as habitat destruction and ecosystem collapse. The foundation was well-funded after Mrs. May’s death in 2005. It is now able to support several worthy causes, all with the goal of preserving the earth and its resources for future generations. The foundation’s impact on many important groups and organizations is extensive. Here are some examples.

Colcom Foundation supports local conservation efforts in Pennsylvania by groups including WeConservePA, Westmoreland Land Trust, and Hollow Oak Land Trust. Other efforts include assisting with education, research, and legal services for those affected by environmental problems such as fracking. The American Red Cross Southwestern Pennsylvania provides emergency assistance to residents impacted by any kind of disaster.

Colcom Foundation is also committed to family planning and reducing the carbon footprint of today’s generation. It addresses issues caused by excessive immigration, aiming to reduce immigration to a sustainable level in the near future.

Scenic Pittsburgh is another group supported by the foundation that helps to enhance and protect the environmental and man-made charms of southwestern Pennsylvania. Education is encouraged through Touchstone Center for Crafts and also through Community Kitchen Pittsburg. These organizations provide instruction to potential artists and those wishing to enhance their culinary skills. The foundation also encourages arts and culture, such as those exhibited in the Carnegie Museum of Natural History.
