John Savignano

John Savignano is a man who has spent most of his career in the hospitality industry with limited success. He started at a golf course in Illinois as a caddy, moved up to assistant golf pro, and eventually became the general manager. The second part of John’s career was at hotels, where he started as a concierge, became management, and then left to become an independent management consultant. In addition to these two careers, John has been very successful with other ventures like investment real estate and emerging technologies.

One of John’s strengths is that he always balances work with a play which has allowed him to be successful for so long. He never lets his ego get in the way of a good time and always tries to see the humor in any situation. John also understands that it is hard to be successful without some form of luck, so he does not take anything for granted. He has used this philosophy for much of his career and continues to do so today.

Early in John’s career, he had a very critical boss who left John very unsure of how to handle things. A mentor stepped in and helped him learn how to give criticism without hurting anyone personally. This lesson has been crucial throughout his career because one wrong word can destroy a relationship or someone’s job.

John’s favorite business decision, which he is most proud of, was leaving the golf course. He could have stayed and made a lot more money, but he wanted to do more work with people, so he left. Although this decision was tough financially, it was the right decision for him.
